Lions Score Two Goals In Loss To Florida National

(MIAMI, FLA) -- Playing arguably their best game of the season, the Florida Memorial University women's soccer team loss 2-5 to Florida National University, Monday, September 23.

The intensity of the game and amount of hard work the Lady Lions displayed wasn't reflected by the score but those in attendance were able to witness the team's progress.

"I am so proud of the girls and the amount of fight they put into the game today," said Coach Anna Maliszewska. "They have been facing adversity all season and they continue to play until the very end."

FMU took five shots in each half of the match, with the sophomore class accounting for eight of them. Diviana D'Cesare, Mariana Rincon and Thalita Azevedo each attempted two shots in the game.

After trailing the Conquistadors 1-0, the Lions' first goal came in the 17th minute from sophomore Laura Reina and was assisted by D'Cesare.

After another FNU goal followed, Florida Memorial once again tied the match at the 38:15 mark to bring the score to 2-2. D'Cesare accounted for that goal and was assited by junior Mordia Johnson

Sophomore goalkeeper Garcy Momplaisir finished with five saves against Florida National.

The Lions will begin conference play this Wednesday when they host the Bobcats from Saint Thomas, September 25 at 2 P.M.
