(BOCA RATON, FLA) -- The Florida Memorial men's soccer team was hit with disappointment after falling 1-6 to Lynn University, Thursday, September 5.
The Lions took the short 40-mile trip north to take on the 12th-ranked Fighting Knights. Within the first 15 minutes, Lynn scored two goals to give them a clear advantage over FMU.
Florida Memorial struggled defensively in the first half allowing another two LU goals by the 40th minute. Things finally started to look up for the Lions when senior
Caleb Acosta cut the Fighting Knights 4-0 lead back down to three after shooting the ball in the upper right corner of the net.
FMU's goal was scored 40:50 into the game and was the only shot the Lions would take in the first half.
After what one would assume was an inspirational and intense halftime speech from the head coach, the Lions took the field with a new sense of urgency.
In the second half the Lions were able to get a little more control of the ball, they played better on offense and this time were able to get off four shots. Seniors
LaVaughn McKay and
Luis Martinez each took a shot in the match.
Defensively the Lions still struggled allowing their opponents to take 22 shots in just the second half.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Angel Garcia finished the match with 13 saves. Lynn would score two more goals in the second half to increase their lead to five.
With a little over 22 minutes left in the game, both teams defense stepped up to keep both teams scoreless.
The Lions fall to 1-2 while the Fighting Knights start their season 1-0. Florida Memorial will travel to Palm Beach Atlantic for their next match, Monday, September 16 for a 7 P.M. start.
