Lady Lions Make Easy Work Of Visiting Warner Wednesday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University looked like every bit of a team that's on a road to defending its Sun Conference crown Wednesday night as it made quick work of visiting Warner University in a three-set sweep (25-13, 25-13, 25-9) in the FMU Wellness Center.

Wednesday's win put an end to the Lions' two-game losing streak and kept FMU in the thick of the early race in the conference standings.

Sophomore Biancaliz Cruz led the way for the Lions (3-2, 3-2 Sun Conference), totaling 13 kills (with just two errors) along with four digs and a service ace. Senior Francheska Rivera dished out a game-high 22 assists while Keisha Roldan came up with a game-high 10 digs.

The Lions, who will hit the road this weekend for a Saturday afternoon tilt against College of Coastal Georgia, set the tone from the onset against the Royals (0-3, 0-2). FMU opened up a 10-5 lead in the first set, which ballooned to 20-12, and ended with a 25-13 margin after back-to-back kills by Cruz (assisted by Agustina Busque).

The second set eventually followed a similar tenor. After essentially alternating points with Warner, Florida Memorial turned its 10-9 lead into a 16-9 and seized completed control. FMU took another 20-12 lead and shut the door on the second set thanks to a pair of attack errors by the Royals.

FMU dominated the third set, opening up a 14-4 lead in route to its 25-9 victory as Adriana Soto – who was given the nickname "Baby" by Lions head coach Marrita Crockett-Moulton – got a pair of service aces and Cruz ended the match with a kill.

Crockett-Moulton said that Wednesday night's performance was a product of a tough couple of days of practice.

"We went really hard in practice following that loss to Webber [International University] this past Saturday," Crockett-Moulton said. "When this team is locked in, you see what we're capable of."
