Lions Set New Season High For Points, Routs Ave Maria 100-42

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Five players scored in double figures, three of them finishing with at least 20 points, led by junior Keaynna Tolbert's 29 points as Florida Memorial University's women's basketball team set a new season-high for points scored in a game, routing visiting Ave Maria University 100-42 Saturday in the FMU Wellness Center.

Saturday's victory was a much-needed "get right" game for the Lady Lions, who were on a three-game losing streak entering the weekend. Even with a shorthanded roster – playing without Jamari Tillman, Janae Markes, and Micah Cooper, who missed the game due to undisclosed injuries – the Lions also set new season-highs in total field goals made (37) and assists (22).

Tolbert, the Sun Conference's leading scorer, showcased the scoring prowess that has earned her two TSC Player of the Week honors but she also showed a flair for passing – recording a game-high 7 assists – while also recording 4 steals.

Having a shortened guard rotation also meant extended minutes for junior Unique Tate, and she took full advantage of the extra time on the court – recording a season-best 20 points (on 8-of-13 shooting) while also grabbing 7 rebounds and nabbing 3 steals. Freshman Chantel Barnett also finished with 20 points while tying with Anjelie Tirone for the game-high with 6 steals.

Tirone drew huge cheers from the Lions' bench when she sank her first three-pointer of the season late in the fourth quarter, pushing her point total to 14. Heather Durand added 16 points and 6 boards while shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range.

Florida Memorial (7-7, 7-6 The Sun Conference) head coach Gregory Stanback, who saw his team turn a 24-point halftime lead into a 60-point lead late in the fourth quarter, made sure his program did its part in the fight against Alzheimer's disease as Saturday was the Lions' "We Back Pat" game.

Made to recognize legendary NCAA women's basketball coach Pat Summitt, who passed away from Alzheimer's disease in June of 2016 and the Pat Summitt Foundation – which strives to raise awareness and support to end Alzheimer's disease – Florida Memorial's players wore t-shirts with "We Back Pat" on the front during pregame warmups while Stanback and various FMU staff members wore the shirts during the women's game.
