Lions Start Fast, Falter Late; Fall At No. 2 Keiser Thursday

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Florida Memorial University jumped out to a 1-0 lead on No. 2 Keiser University – thanks to a Maximilian Dreger goal – but then saw the Seahawks score seven straight goals as the Lions fell 7-1 Wednesday afternoon at KU's Arrigo-Vecellio Field.

Dreger put the Lions on the board with his first goal of the season when he took a pass from Michael Del Gaudio, got behind the Keiser back line, and beat KU goalkeeper with a hard kick into the back of the net in the 36th minute.

Florida Memorial (1-6-1, 1-3-1 The Sun Conference) held that lead over the nationally-ranked opponent for just under five minutes. Keiser tied the game in the 41st minute and the teams went into the halftime intermission knotted at one.

The second half wasn't as kind to the Lions, though. Keiser University (8-1, 4-0) would score six goals over the final 45 minutes – including a two-goals in two-minutes stretch in the 66th and 68th minutes – to sink Florida Memorial.

Dreger led FMU in total shots Wednesday with 2 – both on goal. Jose Garcia, Luis Constantini, and Johan Godoy – the team's shots and goals leader this season – all were credited with a shot against the Seahawks.

Playing just one game this week, the Lions won't return to the pitch until October 20th, when they host Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) for an important conference match at 11 a.m. at Dr. Lester Brown Park.
