Lions Can’t Upend Southeastern Saturday, Falls 2-0

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Memorial University couldn't pull off the upset of host Southeastern University Saturday, falling 2-0 to the Fire in front of 135 fans at SEU's Soccer Field.

The Lions had two players record shots Saturday – Johana Karbanova and Brenda Angon, who also was credited with a shot on goal. Southeastern took a total of 21 shots (11 on goal) and put two goals in the net during the first half.

Florida Memorial did hold the Fire scoreless through the final 61 minutes of the match as Lions freshman goalkeeper Haliley Ilijin recorded 9 saves Saturday.

FMU (0-11, 0-7 The Sun Conference) will get a much-needed few days off following this past week that saw it play two tough road games against conference foes. The Lions won't return to the pitch until October 23rd, when they host rival St. Thomas University for a 11 a.m. match at Dr. Lester Brown Park.
