Florida Memorial WSOC Topped By No. 24 St. Thomas Saturday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's women's soccer program was unable to pull off what would've been a season-defining upset Saturday as it fell 7-0 to visiting No. 24 St. Thomas University at Dr. Lester Brown Park.
 
The Lions were hoping that a return to their home pitch – after playing their past two home matches at an alternate venue – weren't able to generate the offensive opportunities needed to topple their nationally-ranked rival. Florida Memorial was credited with just two shots – both on goal – Saturday while the Bobcats totaled 32 shots (22 on goal) to produce their seven goals.
 
FMU (0-12, 0-8 The Sun Conference) took one shot in each half – one by Kelsey Akins in the first and one by Mya Andrade in the second – while freshman goalkeeper Hailey Ilijin recorded a game-high 13 saves.
 
Florida Memorial will have to put the "Battle of Miami Gardens" loss behind it pretty quickly as the team will return to action Monday (Oct. 25) morning when it hosts HBCU rival Edward Waters University at 11 a.m. – a chance for the Lions to avenge their 4-3 loss to the Tigers back in September on the day that FMU head coach Anna Maliszewska will honor the team's seniors'
