Ali & Benton Co-Star, Lions MBB Tame Edward Waters Tuesday

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Mubashar Ali and Corey Benton each scored 20 points as Florida Memorial University defeated Edward Waters University 80-71 Tuesday in the opening night of Keiser Holiday Classic inside KU's Student Life Center.
 
How It Happened
  • After leading by nine at halftime, FMU opened up as large as a 20-point lead by the 16:08 mark of the second half.
  • The Lions used an 8-0 run and a 7-0 run during the first four minutes of the second half to build its largest lead.
  • Edward Waters got as close as eight (67-59) with six minutes left in the game before FMU went on a 10-0 run to push its lead back to 18 (77-59) with 3:25 left.
  • EWU made one last push and cut the Lions' lead to seven (78-71) with 30 seconds left to play.
  • Ali knocked down two free throws in the final seconds to create the final 80-71 margin.
  • Florida Memorial trailed by as many as six during the first seven minutes of the game.
  • The Lions took their first lead (20-17) at the 8:54 mark of the first half on an Anfernee King three-pointer and never relinquished it.
