Lions WBB Drub Johnson University, Cruise To 108-39 Win

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Six different Florida Memorial University players finished with double-digit points, led by senior guard Destiny Marin's 19 as the Lions cruised to a 108-39 win over visiting Johnson University (Fla.) Friday night in the FMU Wellness Center.
 
How It Happened
  • FMU opened the game on a 19-0 run and held a 25-5 lead at the end of the first half.
  • The Lions' defensive pressure exacerbated what was an already-mundane Johnson University offense, ultimately forcing 45 turnovers.
  • Florida Memorial ended up scoring 47 points off the Suns' turnovers.
  • After leading 45-19 at halftime, FMU expanded its lead over the course of the second half – capitalizing on more JU turnovers.
  • FMU's lead grew as large as 70 points – thanks to a 23-6 run over the span of five minutes – with just over two minutes left in the game before settling into the final 69-point margin.
  • Lions head coach Gregory Stanback was able to play most of his reserves throughout, as no FMU player logged more than 22 minutes of action Tuesday.

  • Florida Memorial set a new season-best mark for margin of victory at 69 points; surpassing its 48-point win over Voorhees College (S.C.) earlier this season.
  • FMU also set new team single-game highs in total field goals made (49), total assists (24), and steals (34).
  • The Lions were without both of their centers Friday; Danielle Jackson, who remains out with an upper extremity injury and Da'Marreya Johnson, who missed the game with an undisclosed injury.
  • Junior guard Jamari Tillman (lower extremity) also remained out, however the home fans broke out in a playful chant calling for her to enter the game.
  • Tuesday's win is also the largest margin of victory for FMU in the all-time series between the programs, which the Lions now lead 4-0.
  • FMU improves to 8-4 on the season and has now won four straight games on its home floor.
  • Johnson University falls to 0-8 on the season.
