FMU Falls At Coastal Georgia Amid Turnovers & Shooting Woes

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Like a heavy anchor, turnovers and cold shooting from three-point range brought down Florida Memorial University's men's basketball team Thursday as it fell 71-64 to host College of Coastal Georgia in CCGA's Coffin Gym.
 
The Lions made just 2 of their 14 shots from three-point range (14 percent) and turned the ball over 24 times, as they trailed by as many as 11 points midway through the second half and never got closer than five as the Mariners handed them their third straight loss.
 
Florida Memorial, which will continue its road trip in the Peach State Saturday at Thomas University, was led by senior Mubashar Ali – who finished with 24 points and 16 rebounds, both game highs and his 11th double-double of the season.
 
Jethro Tshisumpa was the only other Lions player to finish with double dight points, as he totaled 12 points and 5 rebounds before fouling out in just 17 minutes of action.
 
Conversely, Coastal Georgia had four players finish with 10 points or more – led by Vidmantas Kaciuska's 22 points – shot 31 percent from three-point range, turned the ball over just 12 times, and got 22 points off of FMU turnovers.
 
FMU (6-15, 6-12 The Sun Conference) did welcome senior guard Sam Mack Jr. back to the lineup Thursday. Lions head coach Ansar Al-Ameen confirmed that Mack missed time (5 games) due to personal reasons and he scored 9 points (on 4-of-13 shooting) in 23 minutes off the bench in his first game back.
