Lions Fall To No. 8 Keiser University Tuesday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Some days just aren't good days.

Florida Memorial University had a rough outing Tuesday as it fell 16-2 to visiting No. 8 Keiser University in a midweek non-conference single game matchup.

The Lions, who will travel to face No. 25 Webber International University this coming weekend for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday, fell into a 10-0 hole in at the top of the fourth inning; plated a couple runs in the bottom of the fourth; then saw the Seahawks tack on runs in each subsequent inning as the game ended on the 10-run rule after seventh inning.

FMU (10-13) did manage to keep Keiser off the board in the first two innings but saw them break the game open in the third.

Luis Rivera and Jacquel Perry both had 2 hits for the Lions, who have now lost five straight. Both were 2-for-3, but Perry added an RBI. Catcher Josue Sanchez also added an RBI while going 1-for-3 on the day.

Rohandry Javier and Malik Shinozaki also recorded hits Tuesday.

Florida Memorial manufactured its two runs thanks to a small rally in the middle of the batting order. After two quick outs, Yunior Sanchez got it started with a single up the middle; then Rivera got a single in the same second-base gap; then Perry hit a dinger to short – bringing home Yunior Sanchez. Josue Sanchez got his RBI on the next at bat with another single up the middle, bringing home Rivera.

That was the lone bright spot for Florida Memorial, while Keiser University racked up 17 hits – including 3 home runs, 2 triples, and 3 doubles – and earned its fourth consecutive 10-run rule victory over the Lions this season.
