MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – When Florida Memorial University's men's soccer team takes the field Tuesday, it'll be an evening of firsts.

It will be the first time that FMU head coach Daniel Radice will pace the sidelines as a head coach; it'll be the first time that the Lions match up with nearby independent NAIA school Florida National University in a regular season soccer match; and it will be the first time in over 10 months that FMU will play a soccer match after having its 2020 season shutdown for health and safety reasons.

Florida Memorial also hopes that it will be its first win of the season when it takes on the Conquistadors at 5 p.m. at Goodlet Park in Hialeah, Florida.

The Lions' return to pitch comes with a renewed sense of optimism and excitement as Radice has already made a mark on the program – fielding one of the largest rosters in the program's history and while providing the group a steady which comes from his robust experience coaching and playing soccer.

It should help that FMU's roster has a solid mix of holdovers with some playing experience and young freshman that'll be looking to make their mark and earn playing time right away.

One of the returners that should play a large role in the Lions' success this season is junior winger Tarjay Russell. Russell was the team's leading goal-scorer in the shortened 2020 season and possesses good speed and ball-handling skills in the middle of the field.

Another potential difference-maker for the Lions this season could be Johan Godoy. While Godoy is technically a returning player as a junior, he wasn't cleared to play during the 2020 season and hasn't played for Florida Memorial since transferring in from ASA College (Fla.). Godoy is another speedy ball-handler that plays with an attacking mindset and a swagger commensurate with players of Colombian descent – as he's a Bogota, Colombia native.

Radice's group won't be facing a pushover team in Florida National, though. The Conquistadors have fared well against other Sun Conference teams in the recent past – earning victories over Warner University and St. Thomas University this past March during the restarted 2020 season.

Still, the Lions will be hoping that its added depth and front line talent will be enough to come away with its first road win of the season.
