Florida Memorial Sweeps Warner University, Extends Winning Streak

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Florida Memorial University extended multiple winning streaks Wednesday with its 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-16) sweep of host Warner University at WU's Turner Athletic Center.

The Lions (4-3, 3-0 The Sun Conference) won their fourth consecutive match Wednesday; knocked off their third straight conference opponent; and defeated the Royals for the fifth straight time since 2018. Wednesday's sweep was also FMU's second 3-0 match victory in its past three games.

Florida Memorial, which will host Southeastern University this coming Saturday (Sept. 25), put on an almost dominant performance statistically. FMU outdid Warner in every significant statistical category, including a 45-24 kill advantage.

Junior outside hitter Biancaliz Cruz continued what has become a strong early campaign for TSC Player of the Year consideration, as she led Florida Memorial in kills – with a game-high 12 Wednesday – for the third straight match. The former Sun Conference Freshman of the Year also added 4 digs and 2 assists.

FMU setter Alanis Santana had her best night of the season Wednesday, finishing with a season-high 21 assists while also totaling 6 digs. Senior Keisha Santana Roldan led the team with 11 digs and Sammyra Albarran had a "floor game" – finishing with 8 kills, 9 digs, and a game-high 4 service aces.

Wednesday's first set began with the teams playing to a 5-5 tie before the Lions went on a quick 4-0 spurt – creating an arm's-distance margin that FMU turned into as large as an 8-point lead, including the final 25-17 margin.

Warner University (3-10, 0-3) gave its best effort in the second set. The Royals held slim advantages over Florida Memorial throughout, including a 24-22 lead late. FMU closed that two-point game thanks to a Warner service error and a kill by Daphinie Correa. The Royals took the lead again at 25-24 before the Lions secured the second-set victory by rattling off three straight points to win 27-25.

The third set saw Florida Memorial turn a 10-8 lead into a 17-10 lead – thanks to a combination of Warner University attack errors and a run of kills by Adriana Soto – before the Lions cruised into the final 25-16 final margin.
