Lions WBB Bounce Back, Cruise Past Florida National 74-45

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Junior Chantel Barnett led all scorers with 25 points as four Florida Memorial University players finished with double-digit point totals in a sloppy yet comfortable 74-45 wire-to-wire win over visiting Florida National University Wednesday night in the FMU Wellness Center.
 
How It Happened
  • After lead 34-15 at halftime, FMU opened the third quarter on a 15-2 run to fully assert its dominance over the Conquistadors.
  • Florida Memorial opened its largest lead of the game – 34 points – early in the fourth quarter before cruising into the final 74-45 margin.
  • Keaynna Tolbert and Natalia Leguizamon sparked the third-quarter run, accounting for 13 of the 15 points during the stretch.
  • The Lions opened the game by scoring nine unanswered points – four free throws by Barnett followed by back-to-back layups by Aliyah-Deen Ahmad and Monique Esbrand.
  • Florida Memorial's defensive pressure not only forced FNU into 26 turnovers but also held it to just 25.4 percent (18-of-71) shooting from the field.
  • FMU (9-6) outscored the Conquistadors (3-11) in each of the first three quarters before being outdueled in the fourth quarter 20-18.
