Florida Memorial MBB Topped By Southeastern Thursday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Despite getting 20-point performances from two players, Florida Memorial University couldn't make enough plays down the stretch and fell 77-74 to visiting Southeastern University Thursday night in the FMU Wellness Center – the Lions' first home this season.

How It Happened
  • FMU had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds after Southeastern's Sean Shore missed the front-end of a 1-and-1 free throw leaving FMU's deficit at 77-74.
  • Florida Memorial got the ball to senior guard Corey Benton on its final possession, but Benton dribbled into a double team and was unable to get off a shot as the final buzzer sounded.
  • Trailing 77-74 with 14 seconds left, Florida Memorial was gifted an extra possession when SEU turned over the ball on an errant inbound pass.
  • Benton tried to tie the game on the ensuing offensive possession but saw his three-pointer clang off the rim and into the hands of a Fire defender.
  • The teams were knotted at 67 with 4:49 left to play – after a pair of good free throws by FMU's Cheikh Kebe – but Southeastern took control with an 8-0 run – capped by a Riley Minix three-pointer that put the Fire ahead 75-67 with 2:10 left.
  • Florida Memorial led by as many as seven (55-48) early in the second half thanks to a 9-0 run.
  • The game went to halftime tied at 33 as both teams had early swings of momentum over the first 20 minutes of action.
