MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial took care of business at home and defeated Webber International in five thrilling sets (26-24, 27-29, 25-20, 25-27, 15-12) at the FMU Wellness Center.
Both teams battled back and forth the entire evening, but the FMU home crowd lifted the Lions down the stretch and helped elevate the team in crunch time in what proved to be the most thrilling home contest thus far for FMU.
Outside hitter and Brazilian native
Caroline Souza was marvelous all evening as she produced a game-high 26 kills, scoring with both her left and right hand. New Orleans native
Shainell Taylor also came up big for the Lions with 15 kills while Florida native
Olivia Dodd added nine in the victory.
Setter and Brazilian native
Ludmilla Souza played brilliantly for the Lions, finishing with a season-high (and game-high) 40 assists while fellow Lion
Agustina Busque chipped in with 12 assists.
At the net,
Rafaela Nogueira and
Maria Rodriguez both stepped up to the challenge, finishing with four blocks apiece as they had to battle against Webber's 6'6" outside hitter Cintia Lorena. Also on the defensive end, C. Souza was all over the court on both ends as she produced a game-high 22 digs while L. Souza generated 18 digs. Teammate
Mar Danes chipped in with 16 digs in the win.
The Lions continue conference play as they host Keiser on Wednesday, October 12 in conference action. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
