MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial (6-4, 2-3) dropped its second straight conference road game in a 3-0 (21-25, 23-25, 15-25) loss to St. Thomas at the Fernandez Family Center. The game was the fifth road conference contest in a row for the Lions, including eight straight road matches.
In the first set, the Lions produced a game-high 16 kills, but also added nine hitting errors. FMU outside hitter
Caroline Souza generated a total of nine kills to lead the Lions while teammate
Maria Rodriguez chipped in with six.
In set two, the Lions continued to fight and claw their way to a back-and-forth affair, but St. Thomas was able to hold on for the narrow two-point victory. Setter
Agustina Busque fed her teammates all night with a game-high 24 assists.
On the defensive end,
Shainell Taylor finished with a team-high eight digs while teammate
Olivia Dodd produced six. Souza generated two blocks while fellow Lions
Kimberlie Correa and Rodriguez added one block apiece.
In the third set, FMU produced just six total kills, but had nearly all of them negated with five hitting errors.
The Lions continue conference play on Saturday, October 8 as they host Ave Maria for the first home conference game of the season. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
This match has been dubbed the "DIG PINK" breast cancer awareness game as Florida Memorial University athletics honors breast cancer survivors and raises breast cancer awareness.
