FMU MBB Rallies But Can’t Topple No. 19 Southeastern Saturday

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Memorial University rallied back from a double-digit, second-half deficit – even taking a two-point lead with just over five minutes left to play – but couldn't make enough plays late to come away with a win Saturday, ultimately falling 74-71 to No. 19 Southeastern University.
 
How It Happened
  • FMU erased a 10-point deficit (50-40) by outscoring Southeastern 21-9 over a seven-minute span to take a 61-59 lead.
  • SEU responded with an 8-0 run to retake the lead.
  • The Lions tried chipping away at the Fire's advantage over the final two minutes – even drawing as close as 72-71 after an Aubrey Washington three-pointer with eight seconds left to play.
  • SEU extended its lead to 74-71 with a pair of made free throws with seven seconds left.
  • Eric Hester missed a desperation three-point attempt as the buzzer sounded, cementing FMU's narrow loss.
  • Lions leading scorer, Corey Benton fouled out with just 28 minutes played.
  • Southeastern out-rebounded FMU 43-28 Saturday.
