Tshisumpa Stars, Lions MBB Cruise Past Johnson University 109-75 Thursday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Senior center Jethro Tshisumpa recorded career highs in both points and rebounds and secured the first double-double of his career with 24 points and 18 rebounds to lead Florida Memorial University to an 109-75 win over visiting Johnson University (Fla.) Thursday night in the FMU Wellness Center.
 
How It Happened
  • FMU took control after halftime, turning a five-point advantage into a 23-point lead with an 18-0 run through the first four minutes of the second half.
  • The Lions overwhelmed Johnson University with their size – chiefly the 6-foot-10 Tshisumpa and 6-foot-9 forward Brent Holcombe – as the team scored 64 points in the paint and totaled 26 second-chance points.
  • Once Florida Memorial turned the second half into a rout, it cruised over the final 10 minutes as head coach Ansar Al-Ameen rotated many of his reserve players into the game.
  • Five different FMU players scored in double figures Thursday.
  • Johnson University shot 31 percent from the field and the Lions won the rebound battle 68-38.
