Lions MBB Upended By Webber International Saturday, Dropped To 5-Seed

Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Perhaps Florida Memorial University was subconsciously looking ahead to the postseason, perhaps Webber International University played one of its better games of the season, or maybe it was a bit of both as the Lions were dealt a 77-71 loss Saturday evening in WIU's Sabbagh Athletic Center.

Saturday's loss – accompanied by the results of the other games around the Sun Conference – dropped FMU to the 5-seed in the final Sun Conference standings, forcing it to travel in the opening round of next week's TSC Postseason Tournament opposed to hosting.

How It Happened
  • The Lions led by as many as 12 (26-14) midway through the first half but saw Webber International outscore them 23-9 over the final nine minutes and found themselves trailing at halftime.
  • Florida Memorial found itself in the trail position for much of the second half – only taking a brief 50-49 lead following a Jethro Tshisumpa dunk.
  • The Warriors extended their lead to double digits over the final four minutes, putting FMU in an insurmountable hole.
  • WIU's Jaylon Myles scored 15 of his game-high 26 points in the second half – including going 9-for-10 from the free throw line in the second half.
  • Tshisumpa finished a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Inside The Box Score
  • In addition to his double-double, Tshisumpa also finished with a game-high 5 blocked shots.
  • Corey Benton had just 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting.
  • Florida Memorial out-rebounded the Warriors 45-41.
  • Webber International shot 26 free throws in the second half and ended up shooting 28-for-34 from the charity stripe Saturday.
  • Myles 26's points led WIU while Benjamin Ross and Tiyon Martin finished with 14 and 12 points respectively.
  • FMU shot 26.7 percent (8-for-30) from three-point range.

  • Benton, Eric Hester, and Jacobi Gordon all returned to the lineup for the Lions Saturday after missing Thursday's game for rest.
