Lions Baseball Splits Doubleheader Saturday, Takes Weekend Series Over Warner University

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Florida Memorial University split its doubleheader with host Warner University Saturday – dropping the day's first game 12-2 and taking the second 6-2 – to earn its first Sun Conference series win of the season 2-1 this weekend at WU's Royals Field.
 
The Lions rallied back to win Friday's single game 8-5 thanks to a four-run ninth inning.
 
How It Happened – Game One (WU win 12-2)
  • After falling into an 0-2 hole in the second inning, FMU tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth.
  • Warner University pulled away in the bottom of the fifth, plating five runs.
  • The Royals scored runs in what would be the final three innings to take a 12-2 lead and turn on the 10-run mercy rule – ending the game in the seventh inning.
  • Florida Memorial committed six errors.
 
How It Happened – Game Two (FMU win 6-2)
  • The Lions received a solid pitching performance from starter William Hiciano, who threw five shutout innings.
  • Florida Memorial got on the board in the top of the third with a 2-RBI single to left by Yunior Sanchez.
  • FMU extended its lead by manufacturing three runs in the top of the fifth – sparked by an Axel Gomez triple.
  • Warner University got on the board in the bottom of the sixth but FMU added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to create the final 6-2 margin.
 
Inside The Box Score – Game One (WU win 12-2)
  • Jensy Toval and Rafeal Ferrara each had 2 hits, both going 2-for-3 in game one and both notching a double.
  • The Lions had 7 runners left on base.
  • Rohandry Javier and Joseph Figueroa each had a stolen base in game one.
  • Warner's Jan Martinez led all batters going 4-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.
