Lions Beach Volleyball Drops Two In Season-Opening Tri-Duel Saturday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's "road to repeat" as the defending Sun Conference Tournament Champions got off to a less than auspicious start as the Lions dropped their two matches Saturday – falling to Southeastern University 4-1 in the first match of the day and falling 3-2 to host St. Thomas University in their second match.

The three teams played in a tri-duel at STU's Beach Volleyball Courts with the Fire coming out with a pair of wins.

Saturday's first match saw FMU drop all but one flight – the No. 4 flight, with junior Biancaliz Cruz (a member of the 2019 indoor championship team and 2021 beach championship team) and first-year senior Caroline Moreira.

Moreira and Cruz went undefeated on the day, also winning the No. 4 flight against St. Thomas University 21-8, 21-18.

While Florida Memorial (0-2, 0-2 The Sun Conference) dropped its second match of the day, falling 3-2 to host St. Thomas University, it did get a solid performance from its No. 1 flight combo of Olivia Dodd and Rafaela Nogueira picked up a three-set win – who knocked off STU's top pair 21-16, 16-21, 15-12.

Up next for FMU will be another tri-duel next Saturday (Feb. 26) at Ave Maria University, where it will face University of Mobile (Ala.) and William Carey University (Miss.).
