Ayana Harris Named SUN Competitive Cheer Coach Of The Year

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – As the popular February campaign says, "Black History is made every day", a bit of history was made this past weekend when Florida Memorial University head competitive cheerleading coach Ayana Harris was named the Sun Conference's competitive cheer Coach of the Year.

The Lions' head coach received the award at the conclusion of the SUN's competitive cheer conference competition, where FMU placed fifth among the 10 competing teams.

Harris, who is also a Miami-Dade County judge, took the reins of the program as the head coach back in May – after serving as an assistant coach the previous two years – and has already made an imprint on Lions' program.

Florida Memorial won both of its head-to-head competitions this season, which call for both teams to perform two routines each and each routine is scored by a pair of judges. FMU's cheer team defeated Talladega College (Ala.) and Dillard University (La.) in by scoring higher than both teams in the four total routines.
