MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will be looking to rebound from its performance in its season-opening matches when its travels this weekend to face University of Mobile (Ala.) and William Carey University (Miss.) Friday and Saturday respectively at Ave Maria University's Beach Volleyball Courts.

The Lions will be one of five teams playing in across the two days, joining Mobile, William Carey, St. Thomas University, and the host Gyrenes.

Both of FMU's matches are set for 1 p.m. first serves.

Florida Memorial (0-2, 0-2 The Sun Conference) didn't have the showing it wanted this past weekend, dropping both of its games – to Southeastern University and host St. Thomas University – in the season-opening tri-duel.

Picked as the conference's No. 1 team in the preseason coaches' poll while also receiving votes in the preseason national beach volleyball poll, the Lions are still finding their way in the sand. While the team returned a small handful of its players from the 2021 Sun Conference Championship team, the team is running five completely different pairs this season.

No. 4 flight pair Biancaliz Cruz (returner) and Caroline Moreira (newcomer) did look solid together this past weekend, winning both their flight matches and earning a SUN Pair of the Week nomination.

University of Mobile (4-0, 3-0), a new, beach volleyball-only member of The Sun Conference, has jumped out to a strong start this season operating in just its second season as a sanctioned sport program.

The Rams' No. 1 and No. 2 pairs are a combined 7-1 through eight matches this season while its No. 5 flight pair is undefeated.

William Carey (0-2, 0-2), another new beach-only SUN member, hasn't had the same success out of the gate – dropping its first two matches of the season to Mobile.

WCU did go 6-2 this past season and is one of the longer tenured beach volleyball programs in the south, still making the Crusaders a formidable enough opponent to test the Lions.
