FMU WBB Extends Winning Streak, Tops Coastal Georgia

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Sophomore Chantel Barnett scored a game-high 21 points and was one of four Florida Memorial University players to finish in double figures as the Lions won their season-best fifth-straight game with a 75-64 win over host College of Coastal Georgia Thursday night in CCGA's Coffin Gymnasium.

Barnett, the 2020-21 Sun Conference Freshman of the Year, shot an efficient 9-of-13 from the field (2-for-3 from three-point range) while also grabbing 8 rebounds and dishing out four assists for FMU – which led by one at halftime but opened a 10-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Florida Memorial (13-6, 8-2 The Sun Conference) led by as many as 16 in the fourth before cruising into the final 75-64 margin.

Keaynna Tolbert recorded a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Natalia Leguizamon added 15 points and 5 boards for the Lions while Aliyah-Deen Ahmad, who was named the Sun Conference Player of the Week this past week, finished a rebound shy of a double-double with her 12 points and 9 rebounds.

Florida Memorial, which has already clinched a berth in the TSC postseason, will continue its road trip through the Peach State this weekend when it travels to Thomas University for a Saturday afternoon showdown at 2 p.m.
