Poor Shooting Sinks Florida Memorial WBB, Fall To Ave Maria In Overtime Tuesday

AVE MARIA, Fla. – Florida Memorial University shot a season-low 28.7 percent from the field and couldn't make enough plays down the stretch as it fell 71-70 in overtime to host Ave Maria University Tuesday night.
 
How It Happened
  • After rallying back from an 8-point, fourth-quarter deficit, FMU took a four-point lead (69-65) in the midway through the overtime period.
  • The Lions clung to a one-point advantage with just over a minute to play after Kaylee Higgins split a pair of free throws.
  • Over the course of the final minute of the game, Florida Memorial went 0-for-3 from the field, had two turnovers, and a missed free throw.
  • Ave Maria took the lead (71-70) with 12 seconds left in the game on an Emily Rapacz jumper.
  • FMU's potential game-winning shot was blocked – by Rapacz – as time expired in overtime.
  • The Lions never held larger than a four-point lead; was tied with the Gyrenes at halftime; spent much of the second half playing catch-up and never seemed to find an offensive rhythm.
