MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's softball program will make a bit more history this weekend – fittingly in the middle of Women's History Month – as it will play its first regular season home conference three-game weekend series beginning Friday against Webber International University at Flamingo Park in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

The Lions (1-3) will play a single game Friday at 2 p.m. then return to the diamond Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.

About The Lions (1-3)
  • FMU enters the weekend riding a bittersweet wave following its trip to Kissimmee, Florida earlier this week. Scheduled to play six games in three days at the Fortune Road/The Spring Games Tournament, Florida Memorial was only able to play two games – one Wednesday and one Thursday – because inclement weather conditions parked themselves on the Fortune Road Sports Complex and washed-out dozens of the tourney's games.
  • The Lions split the two games they did play – earning the program's first regular season victory Wednesday against Pennsylvania State University-Hazleton (13-2) and dropping Thursday's game to Grand View University (Mich.).
  • Florida Memorial did get a strong pitching performance from Aashana Francis, who threw a complete-game, no-hitter against PSU-Hazleton with 4 strikeouts.
  • At the plate, Haylei Grand and Trinity Hobley both racked up 3 hits and had 2 and 4 RBI respectively in the win.
  • FMU also set multiple benchmarks for program records during the victory – including runs scored in an inning and consecutive hits in an inning.

Scouting Webber International (12-7)
  • Like the Lions, Webber International comes into the weekend fresh off having multiple games canceled earlier this week.
  • Winners of their past seven games, WIU has proven itself to be a quality ball club – earning multiple wins against ranked opponents during its current win streak.
  • Warriors senior infielder Mary-Margaret Maggard leads the team in multiple offensive categories, including hits (19), doubles (6), triples (2), and is second in RBI (11).
  • Webber International finished as the Sun Conference Tournament runner-up this past season and won 30 games overall.
  • WIU head coach Kristy Burton is in her fourth season leading the program and was the 2021 Sun Conference Softball Coach of the Year.

Series History
  • The weekend series will represent the first meetings between the programs.

Keys To Victory
  • FMU will need strong pitching going up against what can be a potent Warriors offensive lineup.
