FMU Baseball Drops Two Against Chestnut Hill In Doubleheader Friday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – It's a tough predicament when one team has hot bats and the other has a still-developing pitching staff and Florida Memorial University found itself on the wrong end of that combo Friday, as it allowed 29 total hits while dropping both of its games to visiting NCAA Division-II opponent Chestnut Hill College in the first two games of the three-game weekend series between the teams at FMU's Harry T. Moore Field.

The Lions dropped the first game 14-5 and squandered a five-run lead in game two to ultimately fall 10-8.

How It Happened – Game One (CHC 14, FMU 5)

  • CHC got hot at the plate again, tying the game at six in the top of the sixth inning.
  • FMU regained the advantage in the bottom sixth on another RBI hit by Young and a sacrifice fly by Gomez.
  • The Griffins got another rally going in the seventh, starting it with a solo home run and ultimately scoring four runs in the inning to take 10-8 lead.
