MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Following a disappointing outing this past weekend against conference foe Ave Maria University, there'll be no rest for the weary Florida Memorial University as it prepares to face a pair of NCAA programs when it participates in the 2022 Florida International University Surf 'N' Turf Tournament Tuesday at Lummus Park in Miami Beach.

FMU will participate in just the first day of the two-day tournament, taking on University of North Florida at 11 a.m. and facing Palm Beach Atlantic University at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The tournament will continue Wednesday and will feature all NCAA Division-I teams, including Florida Gulf Coast University and University of Southern California.

The Lions (0-7) dropped their match against the Gyrenes 0-5 this past Saturday, its seventh consecutive loss this season and fifth-straight conference loss. The defending SUN champions who were also voted as the No. 1 team in the Sun Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, Florida Memorial hasn't been able to find its footing in the sand this season – playing with new pairs at each flight this season.

Still, FMU head coach Marrita Crockett-Moulton hopes that playing a tough schedule will sharpen her team to make a late season push and hopefully go on a run in the postseason.

Taking on a pair of teams NCAA teams won't be an easy task, though.

North Florida (7-2) enters on a three-match winning streak while Palm Beach Atlantic comes in as winners of its past two – both via sweeps.

While winning always will be the ultimate goal, the Lions will likely look at Tuesday's two matches as a chance for its pairs to work on their communication and on-court chemistry and find positives to build on as the team will begin a stretch of important conference games in the coming weeks.
