FMU Baseball Falls To USC-Beaufort Friday; Has Second Game Suspended Until Saturday

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – Florida Memorial University set new season-worst marks for home runs allowed and extra-base hits allowed in a game as it fell 19-4 to host University of South Carolina-Beaufort in the opening game of the three-game weekend series between the teams Friday at USCB's Richard Gray Sports Complex.

Friday was set to a doubleheader, but the teams couldn't complete game two due to inclement weather. Game two was suspended in the top of the third inning with the Lions trailing 2-1. Game two is set to resume Saturday morning at 9 a.m. – weather and field conditions permitting – and the teams will play game three of the series as scheduled Saturday as well.

How It Happened
  • After plating runs in the first two innings, ultimately playing to a 3-3 tie heading into the third, FMU couldn't generate any runs in the top of the third while South Carolina-Beaufort scored four runs to take a 7-3 lead.
  • The Sand Sharks continued their offensive run in the fourth inning, scoring 11 runs to take complete control of the game.
  • USCB hit home runs in the second, third, and fourth innings – including a three-run shot in the third and a grand slam in the fourth.
  • Yunior Sanchez knocked in a run in the top of the sixth.
  • South Carolina-Beaufort got another home run – its fifth of the game – in the bottom of the sixth to create the final 19-4 margin.
