Lions Softball Set To Host Ave Maria For Mid-Week Series Beginning Tuesday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will be looking to capture the program's first conference wins this week when it hosts Ave Maria University for a mid-week series, beginning Tuesday at Carol City Park.

Tuesday's game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch at the Lions' new home venue in Miami Gardens and the teams are slated to play a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 12 p.m.

FMU enters this week's games having dropped all three games of its road weekend series at University of South Carolina-Beaufort this past weekend.
Already carrying the burgeoning losing streak, the Lions have seen attrition cull its roster and test its depth this season.
Even still, the Florida Memorial has shown ephemeral flashes of productivity in certain games, getting multiple runners on base, and even taking a brief lead in a pair of games.
Trinity Hobley and McKenna Dawes have been the team's most fruitful batters this season, registering batting averages of .333 and .318 respectively.
The Lions will be playing its first home games at Miami Carol City Park in nearby Miami Gardens, Florida this season after hosting its first home preseason and regular season games at Flamingo Park in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

The Gyrenes have been, mostly what their record would say they are, a slightly below average team this season.
Statistically, AMU hits .280 as a team, has a collective on-base percentage of .345, and has committed 32 total fielding errors.
In three of the past four seasons, Ave Maria has finished its season with a below .500 record – the outlier being a 19-5 2020 season that saw the Gyrenes receive a bid to participate in the Gulf Coast Invitational Tournament.

Florida Memorial must cash in on its opportunities when it gets batters on base.
With pitcher Aashana Francis likely out for the series due to an upper extremity injury, the onus will be on Bridgette Tuxbury to be a stalwart on the mound Tuesday and Wednesday.
