Young’s Homer Sparks Lions Baseball To 9-2 Win Over Bryant & Stratton Tuesday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – After trailing 2-1 through the top of the seventh inning, Florida Memorial University saw its bats get hot in the bottom seventh, manufacturing a run to tie the game then taking the lead on a Jalen Young 3-run home run as it was able to cruise into a 9-2 win over visiting Bryant & Stratton College-Albany (N.Y.) Tuesday afternoon at Harry T. Moore Field.

How It Happened
  • FMU fell behind 2-1 in the top of the fifth after the Bobcats got a runner on via a walk and was able to bring him home on an RBI single to left.
  • The Lions avoided going down more in the fifth when relief pitcher Samuel Briceno got a strikeout for the third out while BSCA had runners on second and third.
  • Catcher Rafael Ferrara started Florida Memorial's seventh inning rally with a double to left center.
  • Nathan Harris followed Ferrara with a single through the left side and Reinaldo Prieto was able to beat out a throw to first on a fielder's choice – allowing Ferrara's pinch runner, Joseph Figueroa, to cross home plate and tie the game at two.
  • With Prieto and Harris on, Young stepped to the plate and sent a hanging 2-1 pitch over the right field fence for a three-run shot.
  • The Lions would score seven runs in the bottom seventh and tacked on additional run in the eighth to create the final 9-2 margin.
