MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will tie a bow on its first-ever softball season this weekend and it will be out to make sure that it's a positive one as its travels to Thomasville, Georgia to take on Thomas University for a weekend series beginning Friday at TU's Armory Field.

About The Lions (2-28, 1-23 SUN)
  • FMU enters the final weekend of the season a team that's sore – figuratively and literally – from the growing pains of being a first-year program. Dealing with a handful of injuries while battling through a tough season has been tough task for FMU.
  • The Lions dropped all three games of their final home weekend of the year this past weekend against St. Thomas University.
  • Still, Florida Memorial head coach Pedro Herrera and his team have continued to battle game while still having fun playing the game.
  • Since returning from injury midway through the season, infielder Heidy Olivo has shown herself to be a potential building-block player for FMU going forward – leading the team in hits and doubles while ranking third in RBI.

Scouting Thomas (24-19, 11-13 SUN)
  • Winners of its past two conference series', Thomas University will be playing to clinch a berth in the Sun Conference Tournament this weekend.
  • The Night Hawks could all but guarantee a spot in the postseason tourney if it sweeps Florida Memorial.
  • Thomas has been a productive offensive team this season, with five different hitters batting over .300 on the season – including Hannah Wilde, the team's most potent hitter as the leader in RBI and co-leader in home runs.
  • TU is led by first-year head coach Jessica Sanders, who spent the past eight years serving as an assistant with the Night Hawks.

Series History
  • This weekend's series will be the first-ever meetings between the programs.
