MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will have its sights set on possibly earning its first Sun Conference victories this weekend when it hosts rival Keiser University for a three-game weekend series at Miami Carol City Park beginning with a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m.

Following Friday's two-game set, the teams are scheduled to play a single game Saturday at 5 p.m. – which will be the Lions' first-ever home night softball game.

About The Lions (1-20, 0-15 SUN)
  • FMU enters the weekend having dropped a pair of games against Florida National University earlier this week.
  • The Lions did show signs of progress, taking FNU the full distance of seven innings in both of its games and totaling 12 hits in the two games – the team's highest total of hits in a doubleheader this season.
  • Freshman infielder Emily Albelo joined Scarlett Montalvo and Trinity Hobley as players to have two multi-hit games this season after she had two hits in each of the games Tuesday.
  • Jadlyn Dixon also took the team lead for home runs this season (2) after hitting a solo shot against FNU. Dixon's other homer was the program's first-ever grand slam earlier this season.

Scouting Florida National (11-19-1, 2-10 SUN)
  • Keiser isn't riding into the series on the highest of horses, currently on a five-game losing streak after its sweep loss against Warner University this past weekend.
  • KU is led, in large part, by freshman Lizzy Small – who leads the team in almost all the major hitting categories while also serving as the team's ace pitcher.
  • Small has thrown 10 complete games this season while hitting .341 this season.
  • Seahawks head coach Terri Knecht is in her sixth season leading the program and is a tenured softball skipper – having served as a head coach (at Santa Fe College) as far back as 1995.
