FMU Athletics To Host Introductory Press Conferences For Rome II & Washington

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's two newest head coaches will be formally introduced next week as the athletic department will host an introductory press conference on Tuesday, May 17th in the FMU Wellness Center, Lions' Director of Athletics Jason Horn announced Monday.

New volleyball head coach Jazmine Washington and new head football coach Bobby Rome II will both make statements and be available to answer questions from working media at the event – which is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

The press conference will be open to Florida Memorial alumni and students as well as fans and community members.

Rome was named the second FMU head football coach in modern history – since the relaunch of the program following a 62-year hiatus – back in April. Coming to Miami Gardens after spending the past two seasons at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, Rome takes over a Lions football program that won two of its final four games and had its first-ever All-Conference performers.

Washington, now the youngest coach among FMU's head coaches, takes the reins of the Lions' volleyball programs (indoor and beach) after leading the volleyball program at Philander Smith College (Ark.) – where she won nearly 60 percent of the games she coached and was named the 2021 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Coach of the Year.

Out-of-state media outlets wishing to cover the event virtually can contact the Florida Memorial University Sports Information department for further details.
