FMU's Davis earns Sun Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week honors

The Miami native terrorized the Edward Waters front line with four sacks and eight tackles in the victory.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial defensive lineman Antwan Davis was named Sun Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week for his week one performance in the Lions' 39-34 victory at Betty T. Ferguson Stadium. The Miami native terrorized the Tigers front line and generated four sacks for -25 yards along with eight tackles (five solo).

Sun Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week 

Shea Spencer – (7) Keiser | So. – Quarterback – Vero Beach, Fla. 

Sophomore quarterback Shea Spencer threw a career-high three touchdown passes on a career-best 323 yards to lead the No. 7-ranked Keiser Seahawks to a 44-7 win over Warner in non-conference action on Saturday. The native of Vero Beach, Florida, became just the second player in KU history to throw for over 300 yards, completing 22-of-28 passes versus the Royals. Spencer had touchdown passes of 34 yards, four yards, and 26 yards top open the season. Spencer's 323 yards passing was a huge part of KU's 538 yards of total offense (fourth-most in program history). After week one, Spencer ranks first in the SUN in passing yards (No. 5 in the NAIA), completion percentage (No. 3 in the NAIA), and passing touchdowns (No. 6 in the NAIA). 
 

Sun Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week 

Antwan Davis – Florida Memorial | So. – Defensive Line – Miami, Fla. 

Davis is one of the NAIA's league leaders in sacks per game as he finished with a team-high four sacks for a loss of 25 yards, including eight tackles in the 39-34 victory over Edward Waters in the 2022 Big Cat Classic. Davis looks to continue his streak in Baton Rouge when Florida Memorial travels to Louisiana to face NCAA FCS and SWAC opponent, Southern University.

Sun Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week 

Chance Gagnon – (7) Keiser | So. – Kicker – Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. 

Sophomore place kicker Chance Gagnon recorded 14 points on Saturday as the No. 7-ranked Keiser Seahawks defeated Warner, 44-7, in non-conference action. The native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, went a perfect 3-for-3 in field goal attempts and converted all five extra-point attempts in the season-opening victory. Gagnon drilled field goals of 24, 25, and 30 yards. The 14 points are the most by a kicker in the Sun Conference after week one. The three made field goals were a career-best for Gagnon, who entered the season with seven made field goals. Gagnon also recorded 304 kickoff yards, averaging 33.8 yards per kick. Gagnon is currently No. 2 in the NAIA in made field goals and No. 10 in made extra points.
