MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial narrowly survived a thrilling contest with an 83-82 victory over Thomas at the FMU Wellness Center. The win marks the third 1-point victory this season for the defending Sun Conference Tournament champions.
The Night Hawks had a golden chance to win the game as Mohammed Abubakar grabbed the ball after
Jordan Watkins attempted to throw it off his leg, but missed a shot in the paint due to stellar defense from
Jacobi Gordon, who finished with a team-high 20 points and four rebounds while fellow Lion
Jordan Watkins finished with 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Gordon nailed 3-of-4 from downtown while Watkins buried 7-of-10 from the foul line, including the game winning free-throw with just four seconds left.
The Lions held an 11-point lead with 9:07 left in the ball game before Thomas made a run and eventually took a late lead with under one minute to play before Gordon tied the game with an enormous basket with 30 seconds left in the game.
Teammates
Christain Taylor and
Jordan Jackson both scored 10 points apiece, while
Alex Doane provided a huge spark off the bench with 11 points on 3-of-6 three pointers.
FMU returns to action on Thursday, February 9 as they host Thomas in Sun Conference action. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
