MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial went a perfect 4-0 in the 2023 Spring Break HBCU Baseball Classic, earning wins over Voorhees and Paine on both days during the historic event.

The Lions scored the first run of the game in the first inning off an RBI-double by Jalen Young that scored Ulises Rodriguez. The scoring continued in the first with an RBI-double by Luis Ruiz that brought Ivan Zambrano and Jalen Young around the diamond. Voorhees responded with a run in the fourth closing the gap 3-1.
Raymond Rivera took a shot towards right field, scoring the first home run at the Harry T. Moore Baseball Field this season, increasing the Lions lead to 4-1. The Rivera magic continued with an RBI-single that brought Reinaldo Prieto in for a run in the bottom of the fifth. The Lions sealed the deal with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, including runs from Young, Ruiz, and Elijah Jordan.
FMU pitcher Max Charnin pitched all seven innings for the Lions and allowed three hits and one run while striking out seven Voorhees batters.

Florida Memorial got behind early and trailed 3-0 before responding with two runs in the bottom of the second when Rivera generated a two-run home run that also scored
Luis Ruiz.
The Lions followed up with a run in both the third a fourth inning when Ruiz produced an RBI-double that brought home
Ivan Zambrano.
In the sixth, FMU poured in a total of seven runs to pull away from the Tigers for good. Rodriguez and Morrison scored the first two runs of the inning as a result of a throwing error by Paine's third baseman, bringing the score to 6-3 in favor of the Lions.
Later in the inning, Young generate an RBI-single that brought home Zambrano. Moments later, Rivera produced his third bomb of the Classic; a three-run home run to seal the deal against Paine. Morrison followed with an RBI-single that brought home
Reinaldo Prieto for an insurance run.
On the mound,
Ricardo Alvarez de Lugo got the nod, but gave up three runs in just two innings before being replaced by
Samuel Briceno (1-0) who earned the victory and allowed just two hits while
Anthony Molina earned the save, striking out two batters and giving up three hits in three innings pitched.
The Lions are back in action on Tuesday, March 14 as they host Bryant and Stratton College for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the Harry T. Moore Baseball Field.
