BABSON PARK, Fla. | After a gutsy win in game one at Babson Park, the Lions dropped each game of the doubleheader, falling to 16-17 on the year with just seven games remaining in the regular season.
Game One
Lions 5 – Warriors 2
The Lions opened the gmae with a run in the top of the first inning, when
Jalen Young brought home the first of two runs for the center fielder off an error by the Warriors.
However, Webber responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead 2-1. An RBI-single by Young brought home
Ulises Rodriguez for the tying run in the top of the sixth. A sacrifice fly by
Luis Ruiz scored
Ivan Zambrano, giving the Lions the lead once again.
The Lions finished the top of the six with Young's second run of the day, off an RBI-double by
Reinaldo Prieto.
In the seventh,
Gabriel Marinez extended Florida Memorial's lead off an RBI-single by Young for an insurance run, as FMU held on for the three-run victory.
Max Charnin started on the mound for Florida Memorial and allowed five hits, two runs, and struck out one Warrior batter.
Anthony Molina came in relief for Charnin and allowed one walk while striking out four Warriors.
Game Two
Lions 0 – Warriors 16
Coming off the series opening win, the Lions looked to take the series win with a victory in game two of the series. However, FMU struggled to find momentum in game two as they dropped the first half of the doubleheader 16-0, forcing a rubber match.
Webber scored four runs scored in the bottom of the first inning, and continued to dominate with two additional runs scored in the second. They poured in nine runs in the third inning and never looked back, while the Lions could not generate a single run in game two.
William Hiciano got the nod on the mound for the Lions and in two innings, allowed six hits, six runs, three walks and struck out one Warrior.
Mateo Ferguson came in relief and allowed four hits, nine runs and four walks.
Kelvin Feliciano also came in relief and allowed five hits, one run, three walks and struck out two Warriors.
Game Three (Rubber Match)
Lions 3 – Warriors 11
Florida Memorial fought hard, but couldn't stop Webber, who scored double digit runs in their second consecutive game.
Webber opened the game with three the bottom of the first inning, followed by another run in the bottom of the third, increasing their lead to 4-0.
In the top of the sixth, an RBI-single by Zambrano scored Marinez for the first run of the day. A two-RBI double by
Elijah Jordan scored Ruiz and
Pheron Charlton, cutting Webber's gap in half, bringing the score to 6-3.
Webber responded with a run in the seventh inning before adding four additional runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach for FMU.
Ricardo Alvarez de Lugo started the game for FMU and allowed three hits, four runs, two walks while striking out one batter.
Samuel Briceno came in relief of Alvarez de Lugoand allowed three hits, two runs, one walk and struck out two batters.
Jamal Johnson came in relief for Briceno and allowed two walks while striking out one batter.
Kyle Morrison finished things off for FMU and allowed five hits, five runs, two walks and struck out one Warrior.
The Lions return to action Tuesday, April 18 where they take on Fort Lauderdale in non-conference competition. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field.
