Lions pull off second comeback win over Warner in regular season finale

Kelvin Feliciano had an ERA of 1.69 in five innings pitched.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | With the final Sun Conference tournament spot still in play, the Lions erased a three-run deficit and stormed back with an 8-7 victory over the Royals to win their first weekend series in conference play at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field.

Warner opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, then added an additional two runs in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead.

That's when the Lions responded and came out swinging with a Levis Aguila two-RBI single that scored Ivan Zambrano and Luis Ruiz in the bottom of the second. Warner went on to open the gap once again, scoring three runs in the top of the third. The Lions kept Warner honest in the bottom of the third, scoring Jalen Young to make it a three-run game once again.

Warner added their seventh and final run of the day in the top of the fourth to make it a 7-3 game. Facing their largest deficit of the game, the Lions went to work, starting with a Ulises Rodriguez RBI-single that scored Aguila for their first run in the bottom of the fourth. A wild pitch from the Royals brought Luis Velandia from third base to home plate scoring the Lions fifth run making it a two-run game. After a scoreless fifth inning FMU exploded in the bottom of the sixth starting with an Allan Berrios RBI double that scored Rodriguez. Ruiz added another RBI to his incredible season, scoring Jalen Young to tie the game 7-7. An RBI by Zambrano scored Berrios to flip the script late in the matchup, as the Lions held the lead for the first time in the ballgame. Three scoreless innings completed the comeback for Florida Memorial as they came back from a four-run deficit to win 8-7 in the final game of the regular season.

Max Charnin started on the mound for the Lions and allowed six hits, six runs, one walk and struck out one batter. Kelvin Feliciano came in relief and allowed three hits, one run, three walks and struck out one Royal. Kyle Morrison finished on the mound and allowed one hit and struck out two Royals.

The win gives the Lions their first conference series win since they played Thomas on the road. The Lions finish the regular season with an 18-22 record, including 8-13 in conference play.
