FMU Achieves Highest Ranking In LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup Since 2011

FMU also finished 2nd among all NAIA HBCUs

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | For the first time since 2011, Florida Memorial placed in the top 100 in the NAIA LEARFIELD Directors' Cup out of nearly 300 member institutions. FMU ranked second among HBCUs in the NAIA. The Lions climbed nearly 90 spots from the previous year's rankings further showing the athletic programs' continuing upward trend under Director of Athletics Jason Horn's leadership. In addition, FMU jumped four HBCUs from the previous year.

"This is a solid barometer and great growth for our department," said Director of Athletics Jason Horn. "We have assembled a great team of coaches and administrators who are recruiting student-athletes that strive to win championships. We came here to build a department culture of championships and we are seemingly well on our way," said AD Horn.

Florida Memorial scored 116.25 points in the spring. Most recently, the men's track and field team placed eighth at the NAIA National Championship while the women's track and field team finished 26th respectively.

The Lions earned 90.25 points in the fall, including a major boost from the women's basketball team, winning both the regular season and Sun Conference championship for the first time in program history.

A total of 13 teams can be scored for the final standings. Four teams must include men's and women's basketball, men's soccer and volleyball.
