FMU football set to face Bluefield University in season opener

A scheduling conflict from LaGrange caused the switch of opponents for the season opener.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Due to a recent scheduling conflict by LaGrange Football, Florida Memorial's football team will now face Bluefield University on Saturday, August 26 for its season opener. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield, W.V.

"Anytime you lose a game so close to the season starting, that's not the type of adversity you want heading into camp," said FMU head football coach Bobby Rome. "Kudos to our Assistant Vice President & Director of Athletics Jason Horn for working with the folks at Bluefield and allocating the resources to make this possible. I also say thank you to for Bluefield for giving us the opportunity to play them with such notice," Coach Rome explained.

The game, which is 'driven by Nissan', will be shown on national television through HBCU Plus as well as the Impact Network.

Both institutions have agreed upon a return game in September 2025 in Miami Gardens.

"They're an NAIA team with a strong tradition, so we are truly excited to head to Virginia for the season opener, not to mention that Virginia is my home state, so it will be great to go back home for the first game of the season," said Rome.
