Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | The Florida Memorial Lions took a lead in the first half before giving up an equalizer just minutes later, resulting in a 1-1 draw against (RV) Missouri Baptist at Dr. Lester Brown Park.
FMU was forced to play a man down after Zach Stokes received a red card in the 32nd minute of the game.
Lions striker Geovannie Lake scored the first goal of the match in the 37th minute after receiving the perfect through ball from substitute Brad Tulley. Lake cut one defender inside the 18, kept his composure, and calmly passed the ball between the keeper's legs for a goal.
However, the Spartans found the equalizer just five minutes later off a set piece that ended with a backwards header from Sean Bannon, who was facing away from the goal when he scored.
Following the halftime break, FMU speedster Jaheim Rose had an magnificent opportunity to grab the go-ahead goal, but could not get past Spartan goalkeeper Callum Mickinlay who made a brilliant save to keep the match tied at 1-1. He finished with seven saves on the afternoon while FMU goalkeeper Batony Ilyes and the back line played brilliant in the second half despite playing with just 10 men.
Florida Memorial returns to action on Monday, September 4 as they host Palm Beach Atlantic for a Labor Day Special. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. at Dr. Lester Brown Park.
