FMU's Passberger scores match-winning free kick goal in 77th min. as Lions squeeze by Fire

This is the second time this season that Passberger scored a free kick goal.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial earned their third victory of the season in an action-filled Sun Conference match against Southeastern by the score of 2-1 at Dr. Lester Brown Park.

The aggressive contest totaled 37 fouls, 15 yellow cards, and three goals, including a missed penalty kick.

The first half was like a chess match with shots being fired from each end. Both FMU and Southeastern had nine shots apiece. Speedster Jaheim Rose broke the 0-0 tie by dribbling down the field after receiving a pass from Luis Constantini. Rose took it in stride and helped the Lions grab the lead with a clinical strike from outside the box for his first goal of the season in the 41st minute as FMU led 1-0 at the break.

After returning from the break, Florida Memorial had a golden chance to take a 2-0 lead after striker Brad Tulley drew a foul in the penalty box. However, Alejandro Caicedo was denied from the spot with an amazing save by Fire goalkeeper Henrique Cavalini, giving life to Southeastern.

Later in the second half, Southeastern's Kory Nekoloff found the equalizer in the 73rd minute. However, FMU responded just minutes later as "super sub" Felix Paberger scored the go-ahead goal and eventual match-winner in the 77th minute with a golden strike from a set piece that left no chance for Cavalini.

FMU outshot Southeastern University with 18 total shots, while their counterpart finished with 16.

FMU goalkeeper Batony llyes had three saves during the match and allowed one goal.

The Lions return to action on Sunday, Oct. 1 as they travel to Hardeeville, S.C., to face SCAD-Savannah on October 1. Kick-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
