JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | After an exciting back-and-forth first half, Florida Memorial flexed their muscles in the latter half and pulled away with a 38-21 victory over Edward Waters at Nathaniel Glover Community Field and Stadium in the 2023 Big Cat Classic.
FMU running back
George Young had a stellar afternoon, rushing for 97 yards on the ground against a tough Edward Waters front line. Young finished with a game-high three touchdowns; two in the air and one on the ground.
EWU transfer quarterback
Cedquan Smith entered the contest and punished his former squad, completing 8-of-9 passes for 125 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the victory. FMU wide receivers
Frank Bentley and Jamaal Browder both grabbed a touchdown reception against the Tigers.
On the defensive end, Iowa State and Southern transfer
Daeshawn Davis finished with a team-high nine tackles and one interception in the victory.
The win marks the first road victory for Florida Memorial's football program in the modern era.
The Lions return to Miami Gardens for a week of practice before their bye week, then head to Louisiana to face Grambling State University on Saturday, Sept. 16. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. at Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium.
