JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | Despite scoring the opening goal, Florida Memorial tied Edward Waters 1-1 in a nail-biter at Nathaniel Glover Community Field & Stadium.
The Lions took the lead in the first half as
Lea Valdez scored her first goal of the season in the 26th minute.
Following halftime, FMU held on to its slim one-goal lead until Edward Waters responded with a goal in the 56th minute. The match remained scoreless the rest of the way, ending in a draw between the two HBCUs.
Florida Memorial moves to 2-0-2 on the year, continuing their undefeated streak and the best start to a season in program history, led by their young, hungry and inspired head coach
Marc Lue Young.
The match in Jacksonville ends the Lions non-conferences matches, as the remaining 14 games will be against their rivals in the Sun Conference.
FMU returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 13 where they'll travel to West Palm Beach to take on #5 Keiser. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the conference opener.
