MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | The Florida Memorial University men's soccer team earned their second SUN Conference win of the season, this time defeating Ave Maria 3-1 at Dr. Lester Brown Park. The victory lifts FMU to 2-3-1 in conference play.
The Lions got on top midway through the first half when
Cesar Herrero dribbled inside the opponents' 18-yard box, drew defenders in, then made a brilliant pass to teammate
Rafael Coronado who took a one-touch shot and buried it in the back of the net for the go-ahead goal in the 28th minute.
In the second half, FMU took a two-goal lead when
Carlo Lopez found
Burak Cuban for a goal in the 66th minute. The Lions added an insurance goal when Cuban played an incredible ball into space as the speedster
Adam Gonzalez outran defenders and played a perfect one-touch half volley that beat the Gyrenes goalkeeper.
Florida Memorial University goalkeeper
Juan Mora finished with one goal allowed and two saves in the victory.
FMU returns to action on Saturday, October 19 as they travel to Hialeah, Fla. to face Florida National in non-conference competition. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. at Goodlet Park.
