FMU Lions eliminated from SUN Tournament with loss to No. 6 St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Despite leading 1-0 in the first half, Florida Memorial University allowed four goals in the second half in a 5-1 loss to No. 6 St. Thomas in the quarterfinal round of the SUN Conference Men's Soccer Tournament at Autonation Field. The loss eliminates the Lions from postseason play.

In the 26th minute, FMU striker Johan Arevalo dribbled the ball in the six-yard box and attracted numerous Bobcat defenders before calmly passing it to Rafael Coronado for the first goal of the match, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.

St. Thomas responded in the 40th minute with the equalizer from Guido Cacciabue, bringing the match to 1-1 just before the halftime whistle.

In the second half, STU poured in four goals on their home turf to pull away with the victory.

First-year head coach David Martinez and the Lions end the season with an overall record of 7-7-3.
