FMU completes season sweep over Ave Maria for 20th win overall

The Lions advance to 20-5 on the year.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Despite dropping out of the NAIA top 25, Florida Memorial earns win number 20 as they complete the season sweep over Ave Maria with an 88-77 victory at the FMU Wellness Center.

The Lions scored nearly 50 first-half points and never looked back, winning their second-straight SUN contest. FMU was led by Latavious Mitchell, who finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block in 31 minutes while Mr. FMU, Miles-Jordan Smartt, also produced a season-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, including 4-of-5 from downtown. The New Orleans native made several hustle plays throughout the contest that ignited the crowd at the FMU Wellness Center.

FMU forwards Felix Uadiale and Raheem Carter both generated a double-double for the Lions, who improve to 7-4 in SUN play as they continue to jockey for the top spot in the conference.

As a team, Florida Memorial's bench outscored Ave Maria's 37-32. Overall, the Lions shot a blistering 50 percent from the field, hitting 33-of-65 shots to go along with 25 total assists.
