Florida Memorial drops series to Warner with doubleheader loss

LAKE WALES, Fla. | Florida Memorial drops both doubleheader games to Warner, losing its second straight road series. Game two ended in a 15-4 defeat while a late comeback in game three was thwarted in a 7-5 defeat.

Game Two:
FMU 4 - WU 15

Warner opened scoring in the bottom of the first, followed by a run in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Royals added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 5-0 after four innings.

A wild pitch in the top of the sixth scored senior Raymond Rivera for the Lions' first run of the day. An Alejandro Fernandez RBI brought home senior Nathan Harris before a Luis Ruiz sacrifice RBI scored Fernandez to make it a two-run contest. Warner would go on to have a 10-run bottom of the sixth, putting the game out of reach for the Lions. Despite a run scored by shortstop Marco Medina in the top of the seventh, Warner would take victory over FMU 15-4 in game two of the series. The loss marks the fifth straight game FMU allowed 10-plus runs to their opponent.

The Lions continued scoring in the top of the fifth with a Rodriguez sacrifice RBI that scored center fielder Pheron Charlton to make it a two-run contest. Warner added a run in the sixth and the seventh to extend the lead to four runs 7-3 after seven innings.

With one inning left Harris hit a 2 RBI single that scored Rivera and Charlton to make the game 7-5. With two runners on base, the Lions nearly completed the comeback, but the Royals' defense ended the game resulting in the 7-5 defeat.
